Hard at work

Your legacy lives on

This year’s International Women's Day fell on my mother’s birthday. So, I dedicate this blog to her.

The last few years, I have spent her birthday doing what she did while she lived—WORKING. My mother used to put in some work. I can recall from age 10 to 22 watching my single mother navigate parenting four children, guiding children in church, supporting friendships, caring for family, uplifting souls through ministries, working, working more, and sliding in little fun where it could fit. She always said she was tired, and I often wondered when she slept.

At age 45, my mother unexpectedly passed away. I don’t recall much from the funeral except the packed church. I've never seen a church that full. The stories told of my mother by loved ones reminded me of the countless lives she touched. Her impact and legacy will forever live on through the people that she impacted.

The stories of my mother also helped me realize that I am part of her legacy. I inherited my mother’s work ethic. I relentlessly uphold numerous relationships. I work until my eyes, body, and mind give out. I pray that one day, hopefully not too soon, my impact will carry forward.

Until that day comes...

I recognize that what I do every day, with slight changes, is what a woman hereditarily passes on. Among us are missionaries, scholars, entrepreneurs, soldiers, and professionals. Our influence extends across the world. Together, we are creators, leaders, caregivers, and so much more. Our strength is unmatched. I am proud to be a woman.

We run the world! Happy International Women's Day!
